About DevType

Our mission is to help software engineers, DevOps experts, and developers eliminate typing friction and build muscle memory.

Most typing trainers on the web are designed for standard English prose. They focus on common vocabulary, sentences, and punctuation. While this is great for writers and administrative work, it is deeply inadequate for software developers.

Programming languages and shell terminals rely heavily on key characters that standard prose ignores: braces {, brackets [, parenthesis (, colons, semi-colons, operators, and indentation spaces. Developers often experience typing fatigue not because they can't type English words, but because typing syntax structure requires complex finger stretches and key combinations.

What makes DevType unique?

⚡ Code Indent Bypass Logic

Writing code involves structure. Our custom-designed typing engine automatically detects newline indentation levels and forwards the typing cursor past empty blocks, maintaining the flow of real coding.

⌨️ Advanced Keyboard Layouts

Many developers transition to alternative keyboard configurations (like Colemak-DH, Dvorak, Workman, or AZERTY) to combat repetitive strain injuries (RSI) and improve comfort. DevType provides active on-screen maps to assist in developing this muscle memory.

🐳 Real-World Syntaxes

Practice actual code constructs from JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Rust, Go, SQL queries, Dockerfiles, and Git shell commands. No fake gibberish; just standard patterns you type at work every day.

Open Source and Private

DevType.site operates entirely client-side. We do not track your keystrokes, save raw typing details to remote databases, or record personal identifiers. The application is completely free to use, fast, and optimized for low-latency feedback.
