Privacy Policy

DevType.site (https://www.devtype.site) is a typing practice tool that runs entirely in your browser. This policy explains exactly what happens to your data — and, just as importantly, what doesn't.

The Short Version

• Your typing results, XP, badges, and settings are stored only in your browser's local storage — never on our servers, never in a database.
• We don't require accounts, we don't ask for your name or email to use the tool, and we don't sell or share data because we don't collect any.
• No cookies, no advertising, no cross-site tracking.

Data Stored on Your Device (Local Storage)

To remember your progress between visits, DevType saves the following in your browser's local storage under the keys devtype_stats, devtype_theme, devtype_volume, and devtype_muted: your XP and level, high scores, completed drills, badges earned, and interface preferences (theme, sound settings, keyboard layout).

This data never leaves your device. You can erase it at any time by clearing your browser's site data for devtype.site — it is not recoverable afterward, because we never received a copy.

Information Collected Automatically

Like essentially every website, our hosting providers (Cloudflare and Vercel) process standard technical logs for security and delivery purposes — things like IP addresses, request timestamps, and user-agent strings. These logs are governed by the providers' own privacy policies, are used to protect against abuse and serve the site, and are not used by us to profile visitors.

If we enable privacy-friendly aggregate analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics), those are cookieless and do not collect personal data or individual identifiers — they count page views and visits in aggregate only. This section will always state exactly what is enabled.

Third Parties

• Cloudflare — CDN and DNS delivery. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
• Vercel — static site hosting. See Vercel's privacy policy.
• Google Fonts — fonts are loaded from Google's CDN; loading them exposes your IP address to Google. See Google's privacy policy.

We do not embed advertising, social media widgets, or third-party trackers of any kind. If that ever changes, this policy will be updated first.

Cookies

DevType sets no cookies. The service worker (sw.js) caches site assets in your browser so repeat visits load faster and some features work offline; the cache contains site files only, not your data.

Contact Form

The contact form does not transmit anything to us directly. It pre-fills an email in your own mail client, and nothing is sent until you press send there. If you email us, we receive your message and email address and use them only to reply. We don't add you to any mailing list.

Children's Privacy

DevType is a general-audience tool and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 — because there is no personal information to collect. If you're a parent or guardian with concerns, contact us.

Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)

Since we don't collect or store personal data server-side, there is generally nothing for us to disclose, correct, or delete. Your typing history lives in your browser and is under your control at all times. Changes to This Policy

If we change how DevType works in a way that affects privacy — for example, adding optional server-side features or advertising — we will update this page and change the "Last updated" date above before the change goes live.
